“A voice that positively crackles with vengeance” - Rock’s Back Pages

“Captivating music that enraptures the mind completely”  - Gig Junkie

“If you like Diamanda Galas and Lydia Lunch, Melpomeni is for you, lots of dark eye make-up and dark attitude, very much the underground performance artist. Straighter than you might expect but not in any way straight.” -  Artrocker

“Undeniably compelling, a riveting vocal performance and the fundamental difference between a pop song worth listening to and one that isn’t.” - Sound On Sound

With a jewel encrusted stiletto in one hand and  a broken bottle in the other, Melpomeni is ready to bloody the human race and force it to look in the mirror... “We’re a disgusting species”.

Melbourne exile (‘no one wanted to experiment there’) and now Londoner Melpomeni, writes and performs elegantly twisted piano-led psychodramas heavy with love, despair and passion. Her secret box is filled with vengeful venom that will leave you feeling surprised that you want more.

Influences along this journey are Patti Smith, Scott Walker, Marianne Faithful, Arnold Schoenberg,  Diamanda Galas and Friedrich Nietzsche.

Her voice, like a mouthful of  honey dripping with broken glass, will inspire. She won’t just rub salt in your wounds though, she will finish you off with a squeeze of lemon and a lick of tequila…all with a knowing smile…’One must have a dark sense of humour to deal with the urban filth that confronts us’

Alongside her world tours as one part of Mediaeval Baebes, some of her solo London performances have been at London’s legendary Colony Rooms, Sketch and Café De Paris which saw her share a stage with Boy George as part of Marc Bolan’s birthday celebrations. Melpomeni performed three T Rex tracks in her own inimitable style to a rapturous response, one of which, Juniper Suction can be heard on this album.

Melpomeni plays with our existing ideas about what it means to be feminine.  Single, “I Need A Man” is inspired by Dora, Freud’s case for hysteria and is the voice in Melpomeni’s head when faced with a botox needle. ‘Botox is one of the greatest tragedies of womankind. It literally takes our expression away’.

Self penned for the most part, arranged and co-produced by herself, Melpomeni’s forthcoming album, 8 Tragedies, 2 Love songs and a Breakdown is released on 26th July 2010.

Laced with luminescent beauty and primal screams, this album’s stark and brutal honesty exquisitely details hope and hopelessness like no other. “I lost my strength and reclaimed it for myself. It realised it was alchemy when I survived something I thought I wouldn’t. Isolation can lead to places one doesn’t expect. I did find joy at the end of this journey, albeit brief of course.”
