From auspicious beginnings busking at Birmingham's German Market in 2004, riotous fifteen piece collective The Destroyers are now ready to bring to you their forthcoming debut album ‘Out Of Babel’.  The album is a masterpiece of turbo-charged sound, a unique hybrid of Balkan/ Klezmer/ Gypsy styles, beat poetry and gothic um-pah.

The Destroyers are fronted by veteran Irish singer-songwriter Paul Murphy, a ranting punk poet and former proprietor of Birmingham's Songwriters' Café.  The band has gradually built up a repertoire of original music, with founding member Louis Robinson and his fellow violinist Leighton Hargreaves making major contributions alongside selections from Murphy's extensive songbook which dates back decades.   Robinson states, “I am not interested in just being a jump-up-and-down-band, and I hope we are making music that also has a relevance to the moment, both culturally and socially.”

Close-up and dangerous, their blazing passion for performance and combined musical influences creates a swirling spectacle of sensation and sound. From the anthemic rush of ‘Out of Babel’, or the rich Balkan melancholy of ‘Kopanitsas’, to the topically current and groove laden song 'Where Has The Money Gone?', the band knows how to take the pulse of any crowd and dispense the appropriate medicine to lift their spirits, set their feet dancing and unite them in call and response.

After an extensive UK tour, single launch parties in both London and Birmingham and 5 performances at this year’s Glastonbury festival, their live stage show has captivated audiences at festivals and venues around the country, sweeping them into a frenzy of uninhibited dancing and bonhomie.  Most recently the band headlined the New European Village at the Mayor’s Thames Festival on London’s South Bank.  The Fly described the band’s recent live outing in Birmingham as “revolutionary and stirring” and ‘Out Of Babel’ is a perfect chance to hear their frenetic energy and poignant story telling on record.
